The Yamaha 125Z scooter motorcycle, a highly coveted collectible item, can sell for hundreds of millions of Indonesian rupiah. This motorcycle is not just a two-wheeled, two-stroke engine vehicle, but is also a special sport version, and in addition, its distribution in Indonesia is quite limited. It was once the ride of the late MotoGP rider Norick Abe, which adds to its appeal as a collectible.

The Yamaha 125Z can sell for as much as IDR 90 million (about USD 6,300) in Indonesia alone. In Malaysia, a Yamaha 125ZR in new old stock condition was sold for MYR 85,000 (about IDR 303 million or USD 21,000) to a buyer from Vietnam. This special version is considered more expensive than even a large motorcycle or the All New Ertiga. In Indonesia, the standard version of this motorcycle, which comes in yellow, is also rumored to have come in a special "Go" Valentino Rossi version. The Yamaha 125Z has a cubic capacity of 124.33 cc, with a standard power output of 17.2 HP at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 16.1 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

The price of two-stroke scooter motorcycles is sometimes unpredictable. If the motorcycle is in excellent condition and has a special story, its price can be very high. One example is the Yamaha 125Z scooter motorcycle. This is not just a two-wheeled, two-stroke engine vehicle, but is also a special sport version, and in addition, its distribution in Indonesia is quite limited.

This motorcycle is relatively young. In Indonesia, according to information circulating, the Yamaha 125Z was released in 2000. Meanwhile, in neighboring Malaysia, this motorcycle was already released earlier, about two years earlier.

Considered as one of the peaks of the collection for small two-stroke motorcycles, the story of the Yamaha 125Z becomes more interesting because it was once the ride of the late MotoGP rider Norick Abe (Norifumi Abe) who was also legendary in the late 1990s and early 2000s. According to rumors, Norick Abe rode the Yamaha 125Z at one of the circuits in Indonesia, specifically at the Kenjeran Park Circuit in Surabaya.

This note is also a reason why the high-performance scooter motorcycle becomes even more popular as a collectible item.

Sold for Millions

Currently, the motorcycle is already rare to find on used vehicle sales websites, although its seekers are still numerous.

What is its selling price? The price for collectors is indeed quite high. In Indonesia alone, this motorcycle can sell for IDR 90 million (about USD 6,300). Even some time ago, a Yamaha 125ZR in new old stock (NOS) condition in Malaysia was sold for MYR 85,000 (about IDR 303 million or USD 21,000) to a buyer from Vietnam.

This special version is considered fantastic, or even more expensive than a large motorcycle or even the All New Ertiga.

What is interesting is the note in Indonesia. This motorcycle, whose standard version comes in yellow, is also rumored to have come in a special "Go" Valentino Rossi version.

In 2021, one of its owners, Bagus Qodaryansyah, intended to sell his Yamaha 125Z collection for IDR 125 million (about USD 8,700). He previously bought it from someone for IDR 90 million (about USD 6,300).

Engine and Performance

In 2000, this motorcycle was released in Indonesia through Yamaha, which at that time did not use PT Yamaha Music Manufacturing Indonesia but was still named PT Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia.

CBU, the Yamaha 125Z at that time was imported fully from neighboring Malaysia. The name 125 is attached to the approximate cubic capacity of the engine, which is 124.33 cc, with 1 cylinder.

Its standard power is 17.2 HP at 8,000 rpm with a peak torque of 16.1 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
